Who can apply, what is supported and how success is defined.

02

Eligible businesses

The program is intended for independently owned small businesses, sole proprietors and early-stage local businesses whose primary operating address is in the City of Brantford or Brant County. The business must have an active product or service, a legitimate plan to generate sales, a clear technology need and one person responsible for working with DHT. Franchises, subsidiaries of large organizations, businesses operating primarily outside the service area and unlawful or misleading activities are not eligible. Meeting these conditions does not guarantee acceptance.

Meaningful profit

Meaningful profit is not one fixed dollar amount. During discovery, DHT and the business agree on a business-specific sustainability milestone using factors such as recurring sales, direct and operating costs, owner capacity, seasonality, cash flow and the ongoing cost of the supported technology. The milestone must be measurable and realistic. It is used to review the support plan, not as a promise or guarantee of business results.

Privacy

Business and revenue data privacy

DHT may collect revenue ranges, sales activity, costs, operational challenges and progress metrics only to assess eligibility, plan support and review program outcomes. Access is limited to authorized DHT personnel and service providers who need the information for the program. DHT will not publish, sell or use identifiable financial or business information for unrelated marketing without written permission. Information may be disclosed when required by law, to protect the program from fraud or in aggregated and de-identified reporting. Businesses should not submit passwords, complete payment-card details or banking credentials. Records are retained only as reasonably necessary for administration, legal obligations and dispute resolution, then securely deleted or anonymized.

08 / Example business story

A local shop can start with one clear sales bottleneck.

A Brant County food maker may already sell at markets but lose repeat orders between events. A Community Benefit project could document products, add an order form, connect simple customer follow-up and measure whether repeat orders cover the ongoing platform costs.

  • The business keeps ownership of products, pricing and customer relationships.
  • DHT supports the approved technology work and basic training.
  • Progress is reviewed against the business’s own margin, capacity and repeat-sales goals.
